UNITED MARTIAL ARTS RULES
I. MANDATORY UNIFORMS AND EQUIPMENT:
A. All uniforms must be of regulation in that particular style or system.
(In KATA competition uniform may vary with tournament director's approval)
B. Must have a clean uniform.
C. Male competitors will wear groin protector.
0. Female competitors will wear appropriate protection. (Breast & Groin)
E. All protective equipment must be approved by promoter.
F. Soft Type protective gear will be worn on hands & feet. (Foam, Vinyl) .
G. Shin pads will be of soft material, foam, vinyl or leather. No metal or plastic.
H. No shoes allowed when sparring.
I. No type of headdress will be allowed.
J. Must wear a mouthpiece.
K. Head gear mandatory.
II. MATCHES:
A. All competitors will be briefed before competition starts.
B. All competitors will sign in at assigned areas.
C. No late entries will be allowed after last call for sign-in.
D. Fighting area will be no smaller than 20.' X 20' or larger than 24' X 24'.
E. Each fighting area will be numbered In. sequence.
F. Fighting area will be outlined by visible two inch tape.
G. Fighting area will have marked starting lines.
H. RED is always on the right hand side of head referee.
WHITE is always on the left hand side of the head reference.
III. MATCH LENGTH:
A. All matches will be two minutes or 5 point spread.
B. Matches ending in a tie will go to overtime, first point wins.
C. Timekeepers will call time at end of each match.
D. Only head referee can stop the clock when:
(1). A fighter is injured
(2). Equipment Assistance
(3). Official Conference
(4). Or to talk to score keeper or time keeper
E. All final matches-1st & 2nd to run for two minutes, total points (in separate finals-3 minutes, total points).
F. No bow outs.
G. No special exceptions (ON ALL U.M.A. RULES)
IV. SCORING:
A. Speed, focus, control & technique delivered to target areas will be awarded a point. Kicks, two points, and hand technique one point.
B. Target areas are: head. breast. rib cage. abdominal area - NO GROIN AREA.
C. Majority of referees must verify the point.
D. Below brown belt. All punches to face will be pulled. No face contact at all.
E. Brown & black belts will have light contact to the face & medium contact to the body (Adults only).
V. ILLEGAL TECHNIQUES:
A. No joints, no elbow techniques, no back or blind techniques, or throat techniques.
B. No knee, or leg techniques, take downs (only in rings), headbutts, arms, spine, neck, eyes techniques, or kicks to the legs.
C. No finger jabbing, ripping, gouging, or tearing techniques to facial area.
D. No ax kicks.
VI. PROTESTS:
A. Only the instructor of competitor has the right to protest any call BEFORE the match is over (Instructor must be a black belt and in uniform to protest).
B. Head official will have final decision over protest.
C. Protest will be made in a gentlemanly manner.
D. Protest will be made only if it is in conflict of rules.
E. Head official will be the only authority to replace a judge or referee. for cause.
F. Protest must be made at time of infraction.
G. Instructor must be in uniform to protest or judge.
VII. DISQUALIFICATION:
A. Excessive contact in all divisions.
(1). If opponent is knocked out.
(2). If opponents head rocks back from blow.
(3). If opponent goes down and losses control of her/himself.
(4). If opponent is down for more than 60 seconds.
(5). If opponent is down from body or face injury.
B. Face contact below brown will cause a foul to offender & point to opponent.
C. Second face foul will be automatic disqualification.
D. Swelling, discoloration, or drawing blood an head or face in all ranks will be grounds for disqualification. (The injury is verification).
E. Contestant talking back to an official.
F. Unsportsman like conduct or any other form of conduct unbecoming. to a martial artist.
G. Harassment from instructor, parent, or team members.
H. Striking an official: Will be barred for one year from all events.
I. Being judged by own student or instructor, or Instructors from same organization on fighting.
J. An accumulation of 3 fouls.
K. Broken weapon.
L. Being inside of FOUL-LINE with out assignment.
M. Parents protesting inside a ring.
N. In Grand Champion KATA no judge from same school or organsization.
VIII. OUT OF BOUNDS:
A. Any part of the foot over the tape is out of bounds.
B. Majority must verify a point or score.
C. Combination call is awarded majority point verified.
O. Judges must show scores Simultaneously when called for by head judge.
X. FOUL:
A. Each foul called on an opponent will result in a point awarded to person receiving foul. B. Using the arms or legs as a target will be considered a foul.
C. Majority rule an fouls.
D. Fouls will carry over to sudden death situations.
E. Fouls overrule points.
F. Hitting after the break is a foul, cause for point awarded.
G. Illegal techniques & groin techniques are fouls.
H. Combination Fouls are 1 point.
I. All fouls are 1 point to the person receiving the foul.
J. No junior’s (anyone under 18) will fight and adult…not even as an exhibition fight.
XI. KUMITE:
A. Each competitor will compete in his/her division only. Size & weight will be a factor in junior divisions and below.
B. If blood is drawn on same fighter a second time by a different opponent on same wound, disqualification will be called.
C. Light contact in black/brown belts only (face/body) (light).
D. Below brown light contact to body (focus control technique).
E. No face contact below brown.
F. Weapons, Specialty (Musical, Weapons, 2 man) have 1 chance only-all divisions.
G. Specialty (Musical, Weapons, 2 man) no longer than 1 ½ minutes
XII. KATA/FORMS RULES:
A. Divisions will be arranged by belt rank or age and sex.
B. Competitors will address the center judge. giving name, style of art, and name of form.
C. The judging board will be composed of four corner & one center judge.
D. High and low scores will be omitted. High score will be winner.
E. A second chance will be given to contestants who forget their form.
F. Judging own student is allowed with five judges. No two judges from same organization, school, or same instructor.
G. Competitors WEAPON must be 3 feet away from all JUDGES.
H. With 3 judges you can not judge own student.
UMA Sijo Odie Molina’s Scoring system wil be used when there are not enough judges to run a ring and we have to go with (3) three judges, or especially when you have a student in that ring and you have to judge.
Kata: (7)seven point system to be used with (3) three judges in a ring and
Kumite: If you are judging and you have a student in that ring you must take the center judge position and you can not call any points the (2) two other judges will call the points all you do is start, call break and finish the fight.
Every-time a judge has a student in his/her ring he/she will take the center judge position.

(1) Any KATA scored 9.0 & above - one chance to perform.
(2) Any KATA scored 8.9 & above - two chances to perform.
(3) Any accidently dropped weapons is automatic disqualification.
(4) Any competitor coming over 3 feet close to any judge gets an automatic loss of a point or disqualification. (Judgement Call)
(5) Black belts - you may use lower rank to assist you when performing a speciality form of you own age division.
(6) Colored belts yo also may use a lower rank to assist you performing of you own age division.
(7) Specialties will average between 1-1 ½ minutes, 2 minutes or longer will be grounds for disqualification.
TIES
Regular scoring system first time around.
If tied – 1/2 point system second time around.
If tied again -judges point to winner.
Draw numbers for Black Belt line-up.
Grand Champion KATA must be same KATA that won division.
When tie occurs another form will be allowed.
Black Belt Divisions
For Safety 2 Grand Champions.
Heavy Wight will fight middleweight Grand Champion.
Superlight will fight light weight Grand Champion.
No bow outs.
No bow outs if money is advertised for winner.
If Promoter & Board Official feel its a fixed fight no money will be awarded to winners.
If no money is awarded. bow out will be legal. No Grand Champion will be declared.
All Instructors are responsible to have Birth Certificates for their students.
